Are you going on holiday, will you be away from home for a few days, or do you want your parcel to be delivered at a later date? Then it’s good to know what you can and cannot expect from us (and from DHL). In this article, we explain it clearly so that you won’t be faced with any surprises.
Can we postpone the delivery for you?
No, unfortunately we cannot postpone the delivery for customers. As soon as you place an order, it enters our process as quickly as possible. This means that your order is usually handed over to the delivery service within 1–2 working days.
Because the shipping process is already underway by then, we cannot “pause” or move the shipping date or delivery time afterwards.
What can you do via DHL?
Once your parcel is on its way, DHL sometimes offers options to adjust the delivery. For example, you might be able to move the delivery date by a few days or have it delivered to a DHL ServicePoint.
Whether these options are available depends on the shipment and the situation. We therefore cannot guarantee this. The options available for your parcel are usually shown once your Track & Trace is active (via the DHL website or DHL app).
What is the best choice in your situation?
If you want to be sure your parcel arrives at the right moment, it’s often best to place your order only once you have returned from holiday.
Would you still like to order in advance? Then you could also consider having the parcel delivered to an address where someone will be present, for example with neighbours (if you arrange this with them) or at your workplace. This way, you avoid your parcel being delivered to a closed door.
