Of course, you want to have your order at home as quickly as possible, without any hassle with missed delivery attempts or incorrect addresses. Fortunately, there are a few simple things you can do yourself to maximise the chances of a smooth delivery.
With this checklist, you increase the likelihood that the courier will be at your door in one go.
1. Check, check, double-check your address
It sounds very obvious, but this is really the most common cause of delay: a typo in the address. Always check before paying whether your street name and postcode are correct.
Pay special attention to the house number and any addition. A single wrong digit can easily send your parcel on an adventure.
2. Keep a close eye on the Track & Trace
On the delivery day itself, the time can sometimes change due to busy delivery rounds. Therefore, check your Track & Trace in the morning and throughout the day. This way, you know exactly when to be ready and avoid being out shopping just as the doorbell rings.
Of course, try to be at home during the indicated time slot, as this is the easiest way to receive your parcel directly.
3. Provide instructions via DHL
Are you unexpectedly not at home or do you just want more certainty? Then make use of the handy options from DHL.
Via the link in your Track & Trace email or in the Mijn DHL app you can often provide delivery instructions. For example:
- Deliver to the neighbours: Indicate at which house number the parcel may be delivered.
- Permission to leave: Choose a 'safe place' around your home (for example in the garden shed or under the canopy) where the courier may leave the parcel.
4. Choose a parcel point in advance
Do you already know in advance that you are often away during the day or at work? Then choose delivery to a parcel point directly during checkout instead of to your home address.
Your parcel will then go straight to the pick-up point and you can collect it whenever suits you (for example after work or while shopping). This often saves a day's wait and a lot of stress.
